The power of pausing is a great way to achieve some calm, and it is free. Pausing is an incredible stress reducing technique that we can easily incorporated into our daily life. I think the Covid pandemic helped us to slow down a lot, however learning to make slowing down a habit can take a conscious effort.
Pausing can help to slow things down. It is a little bit like putting a full stop at the end of a sentence, or using a comma, before moving on. Having an intervention to help us pause can be so helpful as we are naturally habituated, automated, moving from one thing to another without being fully conscious. Being aware of needing to pause or stop can be a difficult at first.
That is where Sophrology can be a very useful tool. With the practice of Sophrology we learn to pause in between exercises, literally practicing stopping or pausing, before moving onto the next exercise, so that it becomes a habit that we can take into our everyday life. So that we can begin to take a few moments between tasks during the day to re-center ourselves, re-balance and move forwards onto the next thing with more peace and harmony.
Whether it is whilst doing your housework, at work pausing between meetings, projects or sending emails, pausing before we speak to our friends, family or colleagues so that we can respond rather than react, or taking a moment as you get in your car before you turn the ignition to start the car and your journey. Taking pauses like this, throughout the day, can help to reduce the effects of stress that can build up through your day.
If you would like to try Sophrology for yourself, to experience the practice and see how you can begin to be aware of moments when you can pause or stop, before moving onto the next thing. I offer a free discovery session the first Monday of the month, at 7pm to 8pm. See the events page for further details, and details of our next group sessions. Or perhaps you would rather have a one-to-one session to try it out, then please do get in touch using the contact us page or phoning or emailing me.
Pausing now as I sign off and wishing you a good day.
