Therapeutic Issues
Like most things in life, to maintain a good level of wellbeing, we need to put a little effort in. Sophrology can help us to maintain the 5 pillars of good health: Diet, Movement, Sleep, Relaxation, and Social Interaction.
By developing our awareness and intuition, we can better know what is right for our wellbeing in terms of these pillars, improving our levels of relaxation, sleep, relationship with ourselves, other people, and our behaviours.
Sophrology can be used to help people who have developed therapeutic issues such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Some of the most common reasons why people get in touch with us are:
Anxiety, work stress, insomnia, depression and burn out. If you have another condition that is not listed, please get in touch with us and explore how Sophrology might be able to help you.
Preparing for Future Events
Self-development
Sophrology is used extensively to help prepare for future events such as an exam, interview, sports competition, giving a speech, preparing for surgery, going to the dentist, getting married, and pregnancy and labour, for example.
Perhaps you have an event coming up and would like to feel more confident in the outcome or you would like to develop your confidence in general to be able to feel more able to meet future events and uncertainty with great ease, and a sense of calm. Then Sophrology may be able to help you.
Sophrology has long been used as a personal self-development method to help to improve our levels of confidence, self-esteem, connect with our purpose, and to help empower us.
It does this by connecting us more deeply with our values and capacities, those qualities, and strengths that we have, so that we can start to uncover and move towards our potential, removing the blocks along the way. Some of the self-development areas that are often worked on include: Imposter syndrome, building confidence, developing self-esteem, and lack of purpose.
The way we see ourselves, and our world, changes
when we use Sophrology
“Sophrology helps to harmoniously develop our physical and psychological abilities and our inner resources, improve our performance, our imagination and creativity, focus and memories. It improves sleep, helps overcome our fears and find our balance and joy in life. It uses imagination as a tool of change and evolution.“
Michele Freud – a famous French Sophrologist,
Taken from ‘The Sophrology Method’ a great book by my teacher Florence Parot.

Being Me Retreats for Women
“Sophrology can help you let go of all the old ideas you have of yourself, to free you to become who you naturally are and who you were meant to be. It can enable you to meet your potential, be at your best and live your best, by being you!” Carla Forth, Sophrologist
The ‘Being Me’ in-person retreats offer a chance to come together with other like-minded women to gently and yet powerfully, transform, so that we can begin to live life as ourselves, totally and unapologetically.
Feeling like we can relax and be ourselves with others, and even with ourselves, can often feel a million miles away. For me that is what being authentic is, the ability to be totally relaxed within myself to be who I am with most people and most situations. For me it has taken a lot of work to get to this point, and most of the work was in letting go of how I thought I should be, the people pleasing and other behaviours I had adopted in childhood.
For more information for the next ‘Being Me’ retreat please see the events page or contact Carla on 07884 1011164 or email carla@thestresssolutionsophrology.co.uk.
Individual Sessions
Individual Sessions

Preparing for an individual session:
It can be very useful to have a think about what you might like to get out from the session before hand. Whether you are currently confronted with a health issue or you would like to use Sophrology as a self-development tool, it is a good idea to give some thought to what you would like to change or transform.
- Wear comfortable everyday clothes.
- Have some water to hand.
- Bring a pad and pen to write your phenodescription (what you have experienced during the session) and any insights you have gained, at the end of the session.
- Block out the time in your calendar and make sure you are not going to be disturbed, if the session is online.
- It can be useful if you aren’t either too hungry or overfull if you have just eaten prior to the session, so that you can really relax.
Group Sessions
Group Sessions
Online (Zoom) or in Person (Leeds, Yorkshire)
A group session will usually be focused on improving general wellbeing, learning to relax, managing stressors better, improving resilience, etc, like the programmes above. We may look at a specific topic such as anxiety, sleep, depression, and confidence, for example. A group session is not tailored to an individual’s needs as such but is catered towards the wider needs of a larger group.
One of the benefits of a group session is that a group energy is formed. Like-minded people come together, learn, and possibly exchange how they experience Sophrology. When attending more than one session, we discuss what improvements have been felt and how attendees use their learning in their everyday life.
Sessions are held either on Zoom or in person at The Tower Clinic, Cookridge, Leeds. Our fortnightly online wellbeing class, called ‘The Wellbeing Club’ will also give you a taste of Sophrology and how it can help you develop a wellbeing way of life. Find out more on the Events page.

SOPHROLOGY IN THE NEWS
"While many people try and fail to reap the benefits of meditative practices, taking up Sophrology could be the key to unlocking your mind's potential."
“You’ve heard of mindfulness, now meet its dynamic young cousin Sophrology. Mindfulness is the tried-and-tested tool of our times for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addiction and more, but what if it’s not your thing? For those too twitchy to sit still and focus on breathing, Sophrology is the dynamic mindfulness alternative, popular on the continent. The French rugby team and media-magnate-turned-wellbeing-guru Arianna Huffington swear by this method”
"A form of moving meditation or “Dynamic Relaxation”. It’s so popular in France and Switzerland that it’s offered to children in schools and is even part of the training for the Geneva police force. Now it’s about to hit the UK."
“Sophrology - the calming wellbeing we all need now. A form of "Dynamic Meditation" Sophrology brings a sense of relief in the midst of the pandemic"
